<p>I thought it will be good to post for all who are breastfeeding.  Here is my enhancement to my tip#2 with images - What Foods to Boost Breastmilk Supply.</p>

<p>I took Quaker&#8217;s Instant Smooth &amp; Creamy Oats, the stickier and gluey ones works best.  You will need to add sugar or condensed milk to it. Personally I prefer to add sugar rather than milk. </p>

<p>Sometimes it gets pretty boring to eat one slice papaya, why not try a papaya milkshake?  It is very nice when done right.I tried papaya milkshakes at numerous places.  The best milkshake is at Sim Lim Square&#8217;s Foodcourt, there&#8217;s only one stall selling fruits, located at the basement.</p>
<p>I remember the cost is SGD $2.50 each.<br />
Else, buy a ripe papaya, put some ice cubes, put it into the blender and:</p>
<p>(1) place it into a cup with condensed milk, stir it, so that the sweetness spreads, very nice.</p>
<p>(2) if you do not like condensed milk, pour evaporated milk together with papaya and ice cubes and blend. </p>

<p>Wanted to reiterate that half ripe papaya should be used.  Ginger should be added for confinement mums and also to keep the fishy smell to a minimum.</p>
<p>This soup is not tasty, so this is the reason why Fish Tail is used, so that its not too wasteful of the fish meat.</td>

<p>Also, on drinking fluids, do take into account in the cups of oats and papaya milkshakes you took. All these to add up not more than 8 cups of water, unless you are thirsty.  Cos too much water will do no good to production of breastmilk, may even reduce supply.  <img src='http://www.sweetietots.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today I&#8217;m sharing my tried and true ways on how to maintain milk supply at work.  This is more for working mums out there, juggling their work life with family time&#8230; I used to be one.  But below is still very good information for breastfeeding mummies, be it stay at home or working full time.</p>
<p>As I mentioned earlier in my part 2 tips, Stress is one of the major contributors of decrease in supply.  Let me expand further:</p>
<p>1) Stress &#8211; major contributor in drop in supply</p>
<p>2) Irregular pumping times &#8211; major contributor as well, especially when you missed and skip it altogether</p>
<p>3) Ate food that causes decrease e.g. cabbage &#8211; covered this in my part 1 tips</p>
<p>4) Tiredness &#8211; when you are tired, breastmilk supply suffers a drop too</p>
<p>5) Lack of support from husband, family etc. &#8211; VERY important, 99% of first time mums I knew quit breastfeeding as early as a few days from birth of baby due to lack of support from their husbands and family.</p>
<p>6) Got the wrong breast pump. Some mothers find manual pumps work better than electric ones and vice versa.</p>
<p>7) Each pump duration should be at least 20 mins to 30 mins.  If less than that, do try to keep on pumping else you will see a drop in the next pump.</p>
<p><strong>Ways to maintain milk supply at work</strong></p>
<p>a) Find out in advance where you can pump at work, and if there is a room you can do so, find out if there is any power supply, so that you know which pump to buy/bring.  </p>
<p>b) Keep to your own Pump Schedule</p>
<p>      i) If you know when baby needs to be fed, say, before noon time, try to pump at that time in office.</p>
<p>     ii) If baby needs to be fed 4 times for the whole duration of travelling + work time, you won&#8217;t be able to pump 4 times right? You can collapse into 2 pumps. (Be prepared for slight decrease in supply) Try to pump at a time when you see less interruption at work, if possible.  </p>
<p>c) Do eat some of the &#8220;breastmilk boost&#8221; food/fruit at least once a day, if you see a drop in supply.</p>
<p>d) If you find yourself so stressed that milk ain&#8217;t coming out, relax yourself, think of your cutie, sing a song, or look at your cutie&#8217;s pictures in your mobile phone.</p>
<p>e) If you have another colleague that you are close to and are also breastfeeding, why not ask her if able to pump together? Talking to each other during pumps helps both of you to relax, most of time you both will chatting away talking about your cuties. <img src='http://www.sweetietots.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Above mentioned ways of maintaining milk supply at work are all my own experiences.  I have tried all of them and personally, although I hate to admit, the size of the breast does matter which it comes to pumping effectively.  I will not elaborate further on this unless requested.  :)</p>
<p>Talk about workplace pumping, it brings back memorable memories, as I have been able to find other mummies who breastfed their babies at workplace and we sort of supported each other whenever we needed help, be it babies, or milk supply or just be a listening ear.  Its sad that subsequently we all got separated with different office locations and resignations etc.  But the memory stays in our hearts.</p>

<p>Today I am going to share on my breastfeeding tips on what is good for boosting milk supply.  Its very easy to see a drop in milk supply, with our current stressful pace of life in Singapore, its easily understandable as I have been working for the past 10 years of my life.</p>
<p><strong>Does drinking milk help?</strong></p>
<p>Seriously, I do not see an increase of milk supply when I drink milk. However, if you feel that your daily diet&#8217;s not healthy enough for baby, do feel free to get those milk powders for lactating mums, do note, if you belong to the category of mums who get heaty easily like me, try to drink it with more water (mix) rather than follow the instructions.  For drinking lots of fluids is good.  Guideline: 8 cups of water a day.</p>
<p><strong>Eat Papaya.</strong></p>
<p>Eat a slice of papaya one hour before or after lunch is good for your stomach as well as boost a bit of the milk supply.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Eat Fishes, Cod Fish is best.</strong></p>
<p>Of many many fishes I took, the cod fish is the best in boosting supply.  The price tag is also one of the best&#8230; (its pricey).  Basically, white variety fishes work better than red ones.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Drink Papaya Soup with Fish Tail (Cod Fish works Best)</strong></p>
<p>If you are in serious need to boost milk supply, say by at least 50%, boil fish tail with half-ripe papaya, you can also add some wolfberries, ginseng and ginger. </p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Oats are Good</strong></p>
<p>If you like cereals, good, for oats boost milk supply too, and more importantly, its nutritious for you and baby too.  Oats that are sticky works best.  My personal preference is Quaker Oats, those instant type but you need to add sugar or condensed milk to it.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Nutritious Soups</strong> during confinement works well too</p>
<p>Drink plenty of nutritious soups, if your body <span><span>constitution</span></span> are able to handle them without getting too heaty.  I get heaty easily, so I eat more oats rather than drink nutritious soups.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Drink a cup of warm water before feed</strong></p>
<p>This works for me.  For warm water helps with the milk flow, and you may get more let-downs as well.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Once again, do eat in moderation, you cannot be drinking the papaya soup with fish tail everyday, else the milk gets too much, you may get engorged and milk may go to waste.  I also feel that 2 cups of oats a day is good enough to maintain or give it a little bit more boost.  </p>
<p>Babies can taste the flavours in what mothers eat, if you are adventurous enough, try tasting your breastmilk, you may be able to know why sometimes babies smack their lips after drinking or sometimes reject the milk&#8230;  Enjoy!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Most mums will be concerned on what foods to avoid while breastfeeding. I have personally tried all of the below foods during breastfeeding (mostly on my first baby as I do not know alot then) as sometimes, I admit its not easy to avoid eating them.</p>
<p>Do note that foods mentioned here are on <strong>Mummies&#8217; Breastfeeding Diet</strong>, not  to be mistaken that its to be fed directly to baby.</p>

<td><strong>Cabbage</strong><br />
Cabbage will reduce milk supply.<br />
However, if you have too much volume and breast frequently gets  		engorged, and wish to reduce the volume, then you can eat take this, and  		also put one leaf (let it cool in the fridge for best effects) on the  		breast to relive the pain, if any, then pump the milk out.   </p>
<p>Avoid this as long as you are breastfeeding and do not wish to reduce  		the milk supply.</p>
<p>Tip: most hawker food like fish soup, mini pot noodles, contain  		cabbages, you may want to find out from the hawker and ask them not to  		put it in, if you are eating out.</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><strong>Broccoli<br />
</strong>Avoid taking broccoli if your baby is below 4 months old.<br />
This is because broccoli causes wind in baby&#8217;s tummy, it will cause  		discomfort or even colic.   </p>
<p>Usually when baby reaches 4 months old, their tummy is now better  		developed to handle broccoli, but if you still find it causes wind,  		avoid it till baby is older e.g. 6 months old.<br />
<strong><br />
Cucumbers, Peppers, Onion &amp; Garlic, Cauliflower<br />
</strong>All these are gassy veggies, its pretty difficult to avoid so  		many of them, suggest mummies dun eat too many of them at one go.<br />
Personally, I find cauliflower and garlic quite ok for my baby.</td>

<tr>
<td><strong>Citrus Fruits</strong><br />
Avoid citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit,  		strawberries, kiwifruit, pineapple.  Once again, they affect baby&#8217;  		stomach.   </p>
<p>Suggest to wait till baby is 4 months old or 6 months old, try them one  		by one, giving baby a few days grace before trying out another so that  		you know which one is still causing problems.</td>

<tr>
<td><strong>Spices</strong><br />
Curry, chili, cinnamon, pepper does the same effect to baby as mentioned  		above.  But the extent varies with every baby and also amount you  		take.   </p>
<p>My own experiences with my 3 kids tells me a little bit of spices every  		now and then is ok. I can still cope with the little discomfort at  		times.</p>
<p>If you really can&#8217;t avoid such foods, do get a bottle of baby friendly  		medicated oil for the little tummy as well.</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><strong>Caffeine &amp; Chocolate</strong><br />
Caffeine is found in teas, coffee, sodas. Try to keep this minimum like  		during pregnancy, one cup per day is ok.</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><strong>Nuts</strong><br />
Nut traces can be found in chocolate as well.  Avoid peanuts,  		cashew nuts, basically nut products, till baby is one year old.<br />
Personally, nuts causes allergen in my baby, you may find it causes  		minor skin problem if you eat it when baby is before one year old.</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><strong>Alcohol<br />
</strong>My baby doctor tells me to avoid alcoholic drinks, if I need to  		drink, its best to wait for 3 hours before feeding baby.  For  		confinement mums, try to take it cooked, so that you dun have to worry  		about keeping the 3 hour time limit. That&#8217;s what I did.  The  		alcohol drinks I am talking about here are Yomeishu, Dom that are good  		for nourishing health, especially for confinement mothers.</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><strong>Herbal Tea</strong><br />
I noticed that my milk supply drops whenever I took Aspalathus Linealis  		Tea, another name for it is Superoxide Dismutase Tea Essence.  I  		took this for sake of reducing radical oxides and acid in my body&#8230; Now  		I have to abstain from it as I&#8217;m still breastfeeding.</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><strong>Others</strong><br />
Every baby is unique. Mothers do note that if baby is having discomfort  		and you are very sure its not any of the above mentioned, something else  		is causing discomfort.  It could be allergens like egg, soy, wheat,  		corn or corn syrup.  Else, it can also be something very very  		common.   </p>
<p>A lot of detective work needs to be done.  Suggest you track what  		you eat, discomfort usually takes place 2 to 6 hours since your last  		feed, use that as a guide, and you should be able to track down the food  		in another few days time.</p>
<p>My baby is allergic to chicken meat when she is a newborn, it was only  		when she is 9 months old then I began to eat chicken again&#8230; She will  		develop eczema, I tested several times and they appear on her every time  		I take that.  That&#8217;s why I like to say, every baby is unique.</td>
