This is add-on to the previous checklist for C-section Mums – Hospital Checklist for Childbirth.

Since I am a c-section mum, thought it would be good to cover checklist for c-section mums as well. This is on top of the childbirth checklist posted.

Abdominal Binder C-Section mums need a binder so that pain can be alleviated when walking (for me, there is a great difference when no binder is used and when a binder is used). I used different binders and would recommend the brand Futuro, cos its the softest and most comfortable compared to the others I used. Some gynaes would have prepared one for mums who opted for c-section while some gynaes will ask mums to bring one themselves.

Socks Full length button down dresses are most probably the most practical for c-section mums. Therefore, it will be good to wear socks as chinese believe that women after child birth should not be exposed to much wind/air.Some hospitals will slip on socks for you prior to the c-section operation. However, still good to bring one pair or two for change.

Medicated Oil Some mummies experience dizzy spells when they just start to walk (can be due to pain or simply becos c-section mums lose more blood than natural birth mums).

Notes: C-section mums will not be allowed to take any food for the first two days of childbirth unless otherwise specified by the gynae. My gynae only allows me to drink Milo & water. Do remember to drink warm water. The nurses need to measure the amount of urine passed on the 2nd or 3rd day.

Yu Yee Oil I experienced considerable pain around the wound area due to the air that went in during the operation. And because I am practically unable to roll myself for the first day, I had to bear with the pain. Painkillers are more for the wound rather than the trapped air, hence, it does not help to relief much pain. I dared not touch the wound till the 3rd day, I applied medicated oil (yu yee oil) to dispel the stomach wind.Babies can also apply this oil for the same purpose. Use sparingly for newborns.

That’s all I can recall. Hope it helps.

I think this will be useful for first time mummies. I used to ask around for such information from my colleagues when I was having my first baby, but there are still a lot of nitty gritty details that I scrambled when I had my first baby. Things were much easier when I expected my second child and smooth sailing when I had my third.

CheckList for Delivery at Hospital (Singapore)

* 1 big bag to hold all your stuff

Choose something light and yet able to hold many things.

* 1 smaller bag to hold your toiletries, pads & disposable underwear
(Hospitals do provide some toiletries, comb, toothbrush and toothpaste +
shampoo and baby powder)

Disposable underwear is preferred as you are unable to wash anything
right now. Recommend you get at least 2 weeks supply
especially c-section mums. I had a c-section and bought one full month’s
supply till my confinement is over. For toiletries, I only brought a
face towel along. (If you need to bathe at hospital, dun forget to bring
a bath towel.)

* 1 – 3 sets of pajamas set (2pc set or full length style), if
u staying for 2 nights, bring 2 sets of pajamas and vice versa.

Choose pajamas with Buttons if you are breastfeeding. I personally
chose 2 full length dresses with buttons (from waist up) such that I can
still breastfeed my baby, moreover, its not convenient for me to wear
long pants due to c-section, especially the first 2 days, unable to
move around without experiencing considerable pain.

* 1 set of clothes to wear on Day of Discharge from Hospital

Once again, practically strikes. I wear something that I do not need
to change out and can breastfeed right away at home.

* 1 pair of non-slip Slippers

This is for you to wear at hospital, the toilets are usually wet, so
non-slip ones are safer. For me, I’m a minimalist. The very pair of
shoes I wear to the hospital are the same ones I move around the room as
well, cos its already non-slip, and look semi-slipper/sandal style. (ok,
I admit I’m lazy. Unpacking is so troublesome.)

* 1 – 2 pcs of Cardigan

Better bring this in case you can’t stand the temperature at
hospital.

* Maternity Pads (do you know you can use the normal ones as well?,
it worked for me ☺… night types, maxi types, light days types )

Now the question is, string type or adhesive type? Both types are
readily available at major supermarkets. Hospitals here use string type.
And my experience tells me the nurses prefer string ones and c-section
mums are at their mercy…☺ So, you can buy one pack of string ones for
them to use it on you, and if you are like me, prefer the adhesive ones,
just use the balance pads before you got pregnant for use at home.

* One set of Baby Clothing + 4 sets of mittens & booties (Hospital
only supplies baby clothing till day of discharge, the nurse will get
one set of baby clothing from the family on day of discharge. Need to
bring baby mittens and booties for baby to wear.)

I personally find button and string type clothings are especially
suitable for young babies as I do not like holding the baby’s neck and
slip the round neck tee/romper in. Trust me, you will be so conscious of
the baby’s head that is still soft. Baby already have fingernails when
they are born, so, quickly slip on the mittens the moment baby is with
you, you do not want baby to scratch himself/herself. ☺ Bring more for
change.

* Baby diapers & Baby Wipes

If you want to save more money, you need to inform the hospital that
you want to use your own baby diapers and baby wipes. If you used the
hospital’s supplies, they will bill you and let you take home the
balance diapers and wipes.

* Plastic Bags

To hold the changed clothings/baby mittens/booties etc.

Ok, hope this is useful. I will be posting some pictures later on.

Do check back. ☺

- Sweetietots
