Convenience vs Going Green – Lift Upgrading Pros & Cons

When convenience is abused, its practically going against Going Green.

The area where I stayed underwent a lift upgrade and recently completed doing so for a few blocks. The new lift was great, able to stop at every floor, very good for the elderly citizens. That was just the surface however,

The new lift now has 2 buttons to press, one UP and one DOWN button. People tend to get confused as when they want to go DOWN, they press the UP button for the lift to come up. And when they get in, and Press ‘1′ for ground floor, so long as there isn’t any people staying upstairs pressed UP, it will register its going DOWN. What now troubles me is that what if there are people upstairs who pressed the DOWN button as well? I think it pretty much explains why the lift broke down within 1 week of launch….

Unlike the old lift, you only press one SINGLE button and the lift will come. I guess it has something to do with efficiency as the new lift was built faster and pressing the correct button will help to improve the speed.

Lift At 2nd Floor

Although the new lift was designed to bring convenience as the old lift could NOT stop at every floor, it brought too much convenience that people start to abuse it. Imagine seeing the lift stop at 2nd floor…. OK,you may say the 2nd floor people also paid their part of the upgrade fee required in order to have the new lift, have to use it occasionally so that they have not paid for nothing.  I certainly hope its just temporary…cos have you ever thought that the more you use the lift, the more energy it consumes?

just my little thoughts and opinions.

the lift facilities for the old blocks are good enough. the new lift only made human more lazy and abuse what they have. of course, the lift program is much complicated as before, which means higher maintenance fees. Hmm…

still, the new lift will be of much help for the disabled and the elderly who needed it more. it really up to one self if he/she use it properly. however, like what you have said, people staying at 2nd storey paid for the upgrading fees too. Geez. i’m contradicting myself.

@ zhen: you are right that the new lift will be so much more convenient for the elderly and disabled. The upgrade was meant for our greying population. I just hate to see it being abused. Its kinda frustrating to see that the new lift broke down within one week of launch. I’m taking the stairs more often now. :)
